• You must keep your beneficiary details up to date. If they change, contact your pension provider as above.

Around a dozen of us from the Phoenix (ex-Mitcham) Walking Club again took part, with five of us selecting the longest distance. With our advancing years we do wonder how “sensible” it is to still walk 18 miles in a single day, particularly this year with almost 3,000 feet of ascent and the forecast rain showers. Of course we didn’t “win” but we did at least complete the entire walk before the official cut-off time. Then the Saturday evening buffet was held at the “Devonshire Dome” in Buxton, which has the largest “unsupported dome” roof in the UK, with an acoustic rather similar to St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Some of us still remember this year’s host as “Hazel Grove”, where they manufactured Power Semiconductors such as Thyristors. Later, they became “NXP Manchester”, but we were surprised to discover that the whole site has already been rebranded as “Nexperia”, following the NXP merger / takeover of Freescale in the USA. Their main products are now MOSFETs, particularly for the automobile industry, although they did confide that the pictured poster is somewhat indebted to “Photoshop”.
